“This is an obscene spending bill that largely funds things that don’t make us safe. 

$768 billion isn’t a standard defense budget, and “defense” belongs in quotes, but if you include things like homeland security, the paramilitarized health services as well as the department of energy’s nuclear program that can’t be used, it comes to about $1.25 trillion—which we would call a national security budget. 

But, of course, it doesn’t secure us. 

Hyper-militarization and ever-expanding military spending is the one bipartisan issue in Congress.”
