Biography
Elizabeth Murray served as Deputy National Intelligence Officer for the Near East in the National Intelligence Council before retiring after a 27-year career in the US government. She specialized in Middle Eastern political and media analysis, and has lived and traveled extensively in the region.
Elizabeth served for seven years as Member-in-Residence at the Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action, an all-volunteer organization dedicated to nonviolent resistance against nuclear weapons. She currently serves as Member-at-Large on the Ground Zero Center Stewardship Council.
A strong advocate of free speech and press freedoms, she campaigned for the release of WikiLeaks editor Julian Assange during his lengthy incarceration and visited him personally during his time inside London’s Ecuadorean Embassy.
Elizabeth is a member of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) and the Sam Adams Associates for Integrity in Intelligence. A consistent antiwar campaigner and longtime advocate for a free Palestine, she sailed aboard Gaza Freedom Flotilla boats Al-Awda and Handala in 2018 and 2024, respectively, and wrote a series of articles about her experience.
Elizabeth speaks German, Spanish and Arabic.
