“President Biden‘s dismissal of Palestinian casualty counts, implying that the Palestinians are lying about their dead and wounded, is dangerous, because it gives Israel the greenlight to continue its ethnic cleansing campaign in Gaza. It may also signal the development of an official U.S. narrative, likely to be parroted by elements of the American media, that Palestinian suffering and casualties are not credible, furthering this war’s false good-versus-evil construct. It is also troubling because it shows evidence of a commander-in-chief willing to dismiss information he doesn’t like. This tarnishes the integrity of any decision-making by the White House.

We are seeing three catastrophic miscalculations by the President. The first is to lend mass support to Israel’s ethnic cleansing campaign— a moral catastrophe. The second is the continued overextension of the U.S. military and the reckless rush into a potential regional conflict that could escalate into a global war between nuclear-armed powers; bad enough that this is already the case in Eastern Europe, and now it’s unfolding in the Middle East. The third miscalculation is on the domestic political front. Many progressive voters vehemently condemn Israel’s ethnic cleansing and may not cast their votes for Joe Biden next fall in protest. The refusal of a few million progressives to vote for someone they see as complicit in genocide could cost Biden the presidency and hand the election over to the Republicans.”
