“The constant requirement for tens of billions of dollars for the war in Ukraine is self-fulfilling. By the summer, we will hear that more money is needed for the war in Ukraine. The war is currently stalemated, but the possibility of the collapse of the Ukrainian front from a lack of troops and munitions, which no amount of money can make up, is serious in this coming year. Fractures and cracks in the Ukrainian government are becoming more apparent, and we should not easily dismiss the risk of a coup.
The pursuit of victory in an unwinnable war in Ukraine is eviscerating a generation of Ukrainian men, destroying Ukraine’s environment and economy, and continuing a risk of escalation that could lead to nuclear world war. Members of both parties in the US no longer even try to suggest victory in Ukraine and resort to cynically but honestly explaining how the war is good for the profits of US weapons companies. Rather than prolong the suffering, destruction and risk of this war by wasting tens of billions of dollars Americans can use in their communities, the US Congress should demand a diplomatic end to this war.”
