“The Wall Street Journal reports that the U.S. government intends to proceed with the transfer of $320 million of bomb kits to Israel. Weaponry is one pillar of the U.S.-Israel relationship. Israel purchases from U.S. military industry (paid for mostly with U.S. tax dollars) and offers its services as a third party in conducting covert activity. In return, Washington vetoes Security Council resolutions critical of Israel; does not require AIPAC to register as an agent of a foreign government; gives Israel a pass when it murders U.S. citizens, such as Rachel Corrie, Furkan Dogan, Shireen Abu Akleh, and the sailors of the USS Liberty; and treats widespread Israeli espionage in the U.S. (e.g., A, B, C) with kid gloves. This relationship is in need of a divorce, as it serves the interests of neither the U.S. nor Palestinian public. A divorce takes courage. The resolution of disapproval targeting the transfer of bomb kits to Israel, which HuffPost reports Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is ready to introduce, is a solid first step. It remains to be seen if Congress has the courage to enter the divorce proceedings.”
