If I was to resign in protest now, I do not believe I would have nearly the same amount of media attention and I believe that is purposeful. 

You see two things that happen with these wars: you have large amounts of troops in Iraq & Afghanistan for the first 10 to 12 years. 

At the same time, with that large troop presence, you have a great deal of media coverage.
